Position Description:
As a Staff Analyst on the Investor Analytics team, you will play a crucial role in providing analytical support to Upstart’s organization. This includes utilizing analytical and technical skills to assist our partners with various services such as understanding our underwriting models, presenting on loan performance trends, analyzing market opportunities, creating financial models, developing business intelligence pipelines, and automating work processes.
In this role, you will work closely with the Capital Markets and Lending Partnership teams to assist investors, banks, and credit unions in achieving their business goals through our unique technology.
Location: Remote
Time Zone: This team operates on both East and West Coast time zones.
Travel Requirements: As a digital-first company, most of the work can be completed remotely. However, employees are encouraged to attend in-person collaboration sessions, which may occur once or twice a quarter for 2-4 consecutive days.
Responsibilities:
– Influence Upstart’s credit platform and investor/lending community by providing insights and analysis on model performance, credit data, trends, and risks
– Develop credit monitoring and model performance to conduct in-depth analysis and provide recommendations for model and product improvement
– Build financial and performance models, data pipelines, and automated reporting to support credit intelligence
– Collaborate with various teams including Capital Markets, Lending Partnership, Data Engineering, Machine Learning, and Finance to shape credit metrics, drive consensus, and build investor/lending partner confidence
– Mentor junior team members and promote a center of excellence in data, credit, and analytics
Qualifications:
Minimum:
– 8+ years of experience in analytical roles in technology and/or financial services industries
– Experience in credit analytics, business analytics, valuations, and/or financial analytics using Python, R, GSheet (AppScript), Excel (VBA), SAS
– Experience with large datasets, data modeling, and data pipelines using tools such as Databricks, DBT, Looker, Redshift, Snowflake, and Tableau
– Ability to present complex business or performance topics in an executive-friendly manner and influence C-level decision making
– Degree in Analytics, Data Science, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics or other quantitative field
Preferred:
– Experience coaching and mentoring junior team members in technical subjects
– Experience in credit risk management
– Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, particularly in Finance, Product, Data Engineering, and Machine Learning
– Ability to manage multiple workstreams and priorities and influence up and cross-functionally
– Knowledge of consumer lending, consumer finance market, and capital markets

Compensation:
At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location, as we use compensation regions based on location for our “digital first” philosophy. Additionally, individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter will provide more information about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
