Company Overview:
Aurora Solar is a leading software company on a mission to make solar energy accessible to all. Our award-winning software uses data and technology to simplify the process of solar adoption and has already designed millions of solar projects. As a remote-first team of sustainable energy enthusiasts, we are dedicated to supporting the world’s transition to solar.
Team Overview:
Our design team is a collaborative group of professionals with expertise in content strategy, product design, and UX research. We work closely with engineering and product teams to solve complex problems in the residential and commercial solar industry. Our approach values customer satisfaction, iterative exploration, and peer design critiques to deliver high-quality work that supports our company’s goals.
Role Overview:
We are currently seeking a Senior Product Designer to lead design efforts for one of the teams working on Aurora’s HelioScope product. HelioScope is a cloud-based platform that streamlines the design and engineering process for large-scale solar projects. The role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product management and engineering, to create intuitive and innovative experiences for commercial solar users. This position requires a systems thinker with a focus on rapid, iterative execution, and strong UX/UI skills.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and drive the design vision for the designated product area on HelioScope, informed by our design system and feedback from product and engineering teams
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to produce feasible and elegant solutions that meet the needs of our users
• Lead the product design process from problem framing to solution exploration, using low-fidelity concepts, wireframes, and polished Figma prototypes, and ensuring high-quality execution
• Be adaptable and flexible in the design process to drive urgent business results while maintaining deployment velocity
• Provide clear and detailed deliverables to inform and guide engineering peers
• Possess in-depth knowledge of user journeys and jobs to be done within the designated product area, and effectively communicate user needs to the rest of the product team
Requirements:
• At least 5 years of experience in product design, with a focus on responsive web-based applications
• Proficient in Figma
• A portfolio that demonstrates a comprehensive, systems-thinking approach to solving complex problems
• Dedication to quality and the ability to think deeply and iterate quickly
• Knowledge of building complex, multi-persona, consumer-grade B2B products
• Confidence in conducting user research activities, with support from a research team, and the ability to synthesize and apply findings to design choices
• Willingness to understand the product’s technical capabilities to help translate them into intuitive, simple designs that can be efficiently built while solving usability issues
• Experience creating reusable components that are scalable and adaptable across platforms and products, and the ability to recognize when a new component is needed vs. adapting an existing one
• Effective communicator, storyteller, and facilitator, with the ability to address pushback with evidence and expertise while building relationships and elevating design process maturity
Nice to Have:
• Experience designing for “builder” or “canvas” application experiences, such as 3D design tools or gaming platforms
• Knowledge of data visualization with complex numerical datasets
• Familiarity with product-led growth (PLG) experimentation methods for self-service subscription applications
• Experience leading design for large-scale migrations from older to newer technology stacks
• Understanding of front-end development (HTML, CSS, React, etc.) to effectively communicate design specs and collaborate on component implementation
Perks and Benefits:
• Flexible PTO – Take the time off when you need it
• Parental Leave – 16 weeks with 100% base salary and gradual return to work
• WFH Stipend – Initial $500 (Non-engineers) or $750 (Engineering roles)
