About the Data Science Team:

The Data Science team at Thumbtack is responsible for using data to guide business decisions. We collaborate with various teams to solve complex analytical problems, such as setting prices for nearly a thousand local services categories, evaluating the impact of new business models, and identifying predictors of high-quality customers. Our team is tight-knit, intellectually curious, and dedicated to improving Thumbtack and each other.

About the Role:

As a Data Scientist at Thumbtack, you will have the opportunity to use your critical thinking, interpersonal, and technical skills to make a positive impact on the company. You will work closely with product teams to support new product feature launches, analyze the economics of our dynamic marketplace, and inform company strategy. Your role will be crucial in empowering the team and Thumbtack as a whole to build the best product as quickly as possible.

Responsibilities:

– Conduct quantitative research into key user behaviors, product flows, and business trends
– Collaborate with cross-functional partners to identify new opportunities and next steps for the product team based on data analysis
– Design and analyze experiments and tests for causal inference
– Work with product managers and engineers to scope and evaluate new features
– Define and monitor key metrics and propose next steps
– Develop expertise in specific areas, such as Thumbtack search algorithms
– Contribute to our team and company data culture through accessible data table design and maintenance
– Collaborate with, mentor, and help recruit team members

Requirements:

– 2+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or economics
– Experience managing stakeholders with competing priorities in areas such as Product Management, Design, Engineering, and Marketing
– Experience scoping, analyzing, and communicating results of experiments
– Expertise in SQL
– Strong communication skills and ability to build strong relationships cross-functionally and with leadership
– Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in a technical field such as Statistics, Engineering, Analytics, Math, Computer Science, Operations Research, or Economics

Bonus Points:

– Ability to think big-picture, thrive in ambiguity, and solve complex problems
– Experience working in a 2-sided marketplace
– Proficiency in Python or R
