We specialize in using artificial intelligence, autonomy algorithms, and wireless communications to tackle the toughest national security challenges. We are looking for a highly skilled Autonomy Engineer to join our team and help us shape the future of tactical mission autonomy.

Role Description:

As an Autonomy Engineer at EpiSci, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing architectures and systems for various autonomous applications. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, such as developing AI aviators for advanced aircrafts, revolutionizing wireless tactical communication systems, and deploying swarms of autonomous UAVs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Write software for real autonomous aircraft systems, including fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

• Implement state-of-the-art autonomy algorithms for various categories, such as “Sense, Make Sense, Decide, Act (SMDA)” and “Observe, Orient, Decide, Act (OODA)” loops.

• Leverage sensor fusion and target tracking techniques to find, fix, track, and target (F2T2) objects.

• Develop and optimize artificial intelligence techniques, including deep reinforcement learning, machine learning, and neural networks.

• Design and implement autonomous 2D and 3D trajectory/motion planning systems for UAVs.

• Collaborate with 3rd party UAS vehicle vendors to integrate EpiSci autonomy software onto OEM UAS hardware.

• Support live flight tests of autonomy software on platforms like F16s and group 1-5 UAVs.

• Build and improve robotic autonomy software architectures for real systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in computer science or a related engineering field.

• 6+ years of hands-on experience developing software for autonomous robotic systems.

• High proficiency in Python programming language.

• Strong understanding of functional, procedural, data-oriented, and object-oriented programming principles.

• Experience with Docker, Linux-based operating systems, and version control tools like git.

• Passion for solving complex problems in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

• Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.

• Ability to travel as needed (approximately 20% of the time).

• Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible for a U.S. SECRET security clearance with Special Access Program Eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in computer science or a related engineering field.

• 9+ years of experience developing software for autonomous robotic systems.

• Proficiency in Rust and C++ (version 17 and later) programming languages.

• Experience with defense modeling and simulation tools, mission system architecture frameworks, and robotics architectures.

• Familiarity with software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) development and testing.

• Interdisciplinary background with a passion for continual learning.

• Active U.S. SECRET security clearance with Special Access Program Eligibility.
