Ground Truth Labs (GTL) is a dynamic startup, spun out of Oxford University, that specializes in developing cutting-edge deep learning algorithms for image analysis to revolutionize precision medicine. In 2023, GTL received a significant seed stage investment from top early-stage investors. In less than a year, we have grown from a small team to a team of 15, delivering successful projects to some of the world’s largest pharma and biotech companies. We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our team and help us continue our trajectory by developing innovative algorithms and technologies that positively impact patient lives.

Your Role
As a Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing new AI biomarkers for oncology. In this fast-paced, creative environment, you will work alongside software, machine learning, and clinical science teams to build an interactive platform for the creation and delivery of groundbreaking AI tools.
As an early-stage company, you will have the chance to drive our strategic direction, lead new projects, and make a significant impact across the organization. The ideal candidate will identify, build, and promote innovative internal and external tools.
Your Responsibilities
– Lead data engineering processes from ingestion and validation to persistence and maintenance
– Define data requirements and validation procedures
– Process data from various sources to create a curated database
– Analyze data for sensitive information
– Build automated pipelines to reduce and complement human-in-the-loop requirements
– Collaborate closely with machine learning scientists, software engineers, and clinicians to deliver new projects
– Stay up-to-date with industry trends and standards in healthcare data
Your Qualifications
Essential:
– Proficiency in Python, SQL, CSV, and Excel
– Experience with cloud platforms, databases, and APIs
– Solid understanding of data formats and file types in data processing
– Experience working independently and in a team environment
– Familiarity with git or other version control software
– Experience gathering requirements, proposing solutions, and managing projects
Nice to have:
– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience in science or engineering
– Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
– Experience writing tests for data processing
– Experience working with sensitive healthcare data
– Familiarity with modern machine learning and AI methods
Our Environment
At GTL, we primarily work remotely, with a strong focus on efficient processes to ensure high-quality work from asynchronous teams. However, we recognize the value of sharing knowledge and building relationships in-person, which is why we host regular team days in Oxford and London.
We welcome exceptional candidates who are willing to travel regularly (~1/month) to the UK for in-person meetings. Please note that this generally restricts us to candidates based within a ~3 hour travel time to London.
