Role Overview:

We are seeking a driven Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for developing payout, settlement, tax, and ledger products within our payments group. This is an opportunity to be part of a transformative and challenging environment, playing a critical role in our success.

As a software business, online selling is a complex process that requires seamless coordination of multiple components. Paddle manages payments on behalf of our customers, processing millions of payments and making thousands of payouts in various currencies each month. We also ensure accurate tax application and remittance in all jurisdictions.

Our Product Engineering teams consist of a Product Manager, Engineering Manager, and 4-6 engineers. These cross-functional teams have a clear product ownership and goals, with support from Design, Data, InfoSec, Platform, and Developer Experience functions to deliver their roadmap.

Key Responsibilities:

– Facilitate the delivery of initiatives from concept to rollout, collaborating with engineers and non-technical colleagues.
– Manage and coach team members to foster personal and professional growth and drive impactful performance.
– Partner with the Product Manager to create a roadmap for success and ensure the team is working effectively.
– Drive process and practice improvements within the team.
– Oversee technical decisions and strategy for the team’s product area.
– Continuously improve the reliability and scalability of Paddle’s high-traffic event-driven system.
– Collaborate with other leaders in Engineering to shape the department’s engineering principles and practices.

Qualifications:

– At least 1 year of management experience with direct reports.
– 5+ years of experience as a senior software engineer working on complex, cloud-based systems.
– Strong understanding of high-performing and sustainable engineering teams.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Experience building products for payments, transfers, and financial reconciliation.
– Comfortable working with financial, risk, and legal stakeholders.
– Proactive, takes ownership, and open to self-improvement.
