About PostHog:
PostHog is a platform designed to help engineers improve product development and success. Our all-in-one platform offers analytics, testing, observation, feature flags, experiments, customer data platform (CDP), SQL access, and data warehousing capabilities, with more features to come.
Founded as an open-source project during Y Combinator’s W20 cohort, PostHog achieved the most successful B2B software launch on HackerNews since 2012, despite being only 4 weeks old at the time. Since then, over 70,000 companies have installed our platform. We have also seen significant success with our paid upgrades, raised $27 million from top investors, and experienced strong product-led growth, with 97% coming from word of mouth.
We are growing rapidly and sustainably, with a focus on building an exceptional product for end users, hiring exceptional team members, and achieving fantastic growth as a result.
What We Value:
We are committed to being open source and building a strong community around our product.
Transparency is a core value for us. To enable our teams to make informed decisions, we share as much information as possible. Our public handbook contains details about our roadmap, compensation, strategy, and investors. We also regularly hold team-wide feedback sessions to share honest feedback.
We value autonomy and maximizing impact. We trust our team members to choose what projects to work on based on their potential impact on our customers.
We are driven to solve big problems and continually innovate.
Who We’re Looking For:
We are seeking a highly experienced senior backend engineer with experience in Node.js, backend development, and distributed systems. You are passionate about optimizing services and determining product direction (working closely with customers to do so).
What You’ll Be Doing:
At PostHog, we are growing quickly and processing a high volume of data. As a senior backend engineer, your responsibilities will include data capture, reliable processing of high volumes of data, and building a workflow and delivery engine. We currently process tens of billions of events per month.
We use a combination of TypeScript/Node.js and Rust for high-throughput processing. You will be involved in building a workflow and processing engine that offers customers flexibility in how they send data. One day, you may be making high-level architectural decisions, the next, optimizing a specific part of our pipeline to increase throughput by 2x, and the day after that, working directly with customers to build a tool to help them send data to a third-party.
Requirements:
Experience with TypeScript/Node.js or Rust, and willingness to work with both
Experience building a system that handles high volumes of requests/data
Ability to make decisions quickly and deliver results efficiently
Nice to Have:
Experience with on-call support and handling incidents
We believe that a diverse team with a range of backgrounds and experiences makes our product and company better. That’s why we have a dedicated section in our handbook on diversity and inclusion. We encourage all individuals to apply, and we value alignment with our values as much as experience.
If you have a disability, please let us know if there are any accommodations we can provide during the interview process. We are happy to accommodate.
Benefits:
In return, we offer the following benefits:
Competitive compensation and equity in PostHog
Unlimited time off with a minimum of 25 days per year (in 2021, our team took an average of 32 days off)
Private medical insurance, including dental and vision (US and UK only)
Pension/401k contributions with a 4% match
Generous parental, bereavement, and child loss leave
Training budget and free books
Monthly budget for co-working or café workspaces, as well as team social events
Access to mental health chat through Spill
Monthly budget to support open-source projects
We will be your first investor
