The Product Design team at Gusto consists of over 60 passionate individuals who are dedicated to our mission. We are a cross-functional team of designers, researchers, writers, operations professionals, and front-end developers. We prioritize understanding and empathy for our customers and work closely with our partners in Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to design and deliver impactful experiences. About the Opportunity:
Gusto is seeking a Senior Staff Designer to join our Core Experiences team and lead design for our Compliance products. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and internal feature teams to design and deliver a seamless and user-friendly experience for Gusto admins and employees. As a member of the Core Experiences team, you will also contribute to the overall design quality and leadership of the team and help shape the collaboration between platform designers and feature teams.
Key Responsibilities:
– Lead the strategy and execution of compliance experiences across the product to drive company-wide impact
– Collaborate with cross-functional partners to understand customer needs and define long-term UX vision and short-term milestones
– Work with research, data, and support teams to gain a holistic understanding of customer needs and inform prioritization decisions
– Partner with internal teams to identify common customer and business needs and design patterns to meet those needs
– Assess the impact of design decisions on the customer experience by working closely with engineering partners
– Advocate for and contribute to the use of Workbench, our Design System
– Mentor designers across the Core Experiences team and foster growth and collaboration
– Provide the rationale behind design decisions and seek feedback from other designers to continuously improve design quality
– Think long-term and contribute to the broader vision while also considering short-term scoping and sequencing to deliver value
– Design end-to-end customer journeys from software to service
– Possess a strong understanding of web patterns and design with a platform-first approach
– Embrace ambiguity and turn it into opportunities to create impactful designs
– Share Gusto’s mission and passion for making a positive impact on the world
Qualifications:
– 10+ years of experience in Product Design, with a focus on platform design
– Experience in the compliance domain is a plus
– Ability to develop and execute a long-term vision
– Experience in developing a cohesive product strategy with cross-functional teams
– Proficiency in prototyping to communicate design ideas and gain buy-in
– Experience in designing and shipping products in complex domains, backed by research, data, and insights from support teams
– Strong background in systems thinking and using a Design System and platform-first approach
– Ability to explain design decisions and the impact they have on the overall customer experience
– Ability to think long-term and contribute to the broader vision while considering short-term scoping and sequencing
– Strong UX craft and ability to design for all touchpoints

Compensation and Benefits:

Our cash compensation range for this role is $174,000/yr – $235,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $204,000/yr – $254,000/yr in San Francisco, Seattle & New York. The final offer amount will be determined by various factors, including experience and expertise.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees based in these locations will be expected to work from the office 2-3 days per week (or more depending on the role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto’s subsidiary, whose physical office is located in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose areas.
