Your Role:
As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the systems and services that form the foundation of Alpaca. You will play a crucial role in empowering our millions of users to trade billions of dollars worth of assets.
The Ledger Team is responsible for building a modern ledger system that maintains a complete and accurate record of all account activities. This system is essential for financial reporting, decision-making, and compliance. As a Senior Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work with a cross-functional team to define and achieve goals, while also having the autonomy to design and implement solutions.
Responsibilities:
– Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as finance, operations, and product teams, to deliver high-impact features and projects
– Design and build backend systems and components with integrity, maintainability, scalability, and stability in mind
– Own the delivery of high-visibility features and projects from design to deployment
– Work with engineering teams to improve the health of Alpaca’s systems
Requirements:
– 5+ years of experience working on systems at scale
– Strong coding skills, preferably in Go
– Obsessed with delivering performant, defect-free, and maintainable code
– Proactive problem solver
– Strong collaborator who can align technical and non-technical stakeholders
– Comfortable working independently or in a team
– Experience with IDLs (e.g., protobuf), RPC frameworks (e.g., gRPC), cloud platforms (e.g., GCP), and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
– Ability to debug and anticipate issues
Nice-to-Haves:
– Experience in the financial services or accounting industry
– Experience with distributed systems and databases
– Experience with event-driven systems and messaging brokers (e.g., Redpanda)
– Remote work experience
