Natera is a rapidly growing company dedicated to personalized genetic testing and diagnostics for oncology, women’s health, and organ health. We are seeking a highly motivated Lead Data Scientist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and prototyping cutting-edge algorithms for analysis of genetic and clinical data. You will collaborate closely with R&D and product teams to improve our products and processes. As a leader in our data group, you will also contribute to our intellectual property portfolio and mentor team members.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Lead research efforts in building Machine Learning/Deep Learning models for next-generation sequencing platforms.
• Utilize Machine Learning/Deep Learning to develop advanced algorithms and products.
• Guide products through the development process from research to commercial launch.
• Contribute to the company’s intellectual property portfolio.
• Conduct rigorous data analysis and support documentation efforts.
• Mentor team members and provide thought leadership.
• Make independent decisions and provide guidance where needed.
• Assist with molecular biology experiments.
Required Qualifications:
• Master’s or Ph.D. in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Engineering, or similar).
• At least five years of experience in data analysis using scripting languages such as Python.
• Extensive knowledge and practical experience in machine learning, statistics, deep learning, and bioinformatics.
• Experience leading the development and implementation of advanced analytical models and pipelines for RNA and miRNA data.
• Advanced experience with open-source machine learning libraries (Python or R) in a cloud-based environment.
• Experience with large-scale data processing and database query languages such as SQL.
• Familiarity with scalable data processing tools (Spark, Dataflow, or similar).
• Proven ability to apply mathematical principles to solve real-world problems.
• Knowledge of assay development and analysis pipelines for molecular and clinical biomarkers.
• Proven experience working with diverse teams to deliver complex projects.
• Extensive experience with Python, R, and Spark, and leveraging numerical and machine learning libraries (NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, Tensorflow, etc.).
• Expert knowledge in Machine Learning, deep learning, statistical modeling, and bioinformatics pipelines.
• Familiarity with human genetics and sequencing technologies.
Desired Qualifications:
• Previous experience in diagnostic testing.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
