Position: Backend Engineer at Clerkie

Company Overview:

Clerkie is a remote-first company with a team of 30 employees spread across 4 time zones in the United States. To date, the company has raised $41 million, including a $33 million Series A round in early 2023, with investments from top financial and venture institutions such as Citi Ventures, Left Lane Capital, Wellington Ventures, Flourish Ventures, and Vestigo Ventures.

Position Overview:

As a Backend Engineer at Clerkie, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of our company by maintaining and improving our backend infrastructure as we continue to grow and develop new features. We are committed to security and scalability, and we need a self-motivated and adaptable individual who can pivot quickly, communicate effectively, and produce high-quality work under tight deadlines. Our company culture prioritizes a customer-first mindset and a bias for action.

Key Responsibilities:

– Design, implement, and maintain core infrastructure
– Use backend expertise to support feature development and enhance platform reliability, performance, and scalability
– Expand our ecosystem of metrics and alerts to improve the user experience
– Collaborate with other teams to provide a seamless and reliable user experience

Minimum Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
– 2+ years of software development experience, preferably with Node.js
– Ability to manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
– Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
– Proficiency in object-oriented programming best practices
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Preferred Qualifications (in order of priority):

– 4+ years of experience in server-side development
– Experience building server-side applications with Node.js
– Familiarity with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB
– Experience with AWS and DevOps tools, such as EC2, S3, and ELB
– Knowledge of Node.js libraries, such as Mocha
– Experience in consumer financial apps or other data-heavy applications (preferred but not required)

Salary Range: $90k – $150k + equity

– Live Coding Challenge with another Senior Engineer (90 minutes via Google Meet)
– Final Management Meeting with Senior Leadership Team (45 minutes via Google Meet)
