Job Description:
We are seeking a second product designer to join our team. As a product designer at Tern, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our design process and collaborating with various teams to develop innovative solutions for travel advisors. This is not an entry-level position – we are looking for someone with prior experience owning product design projects.
Key Responsibilities:
– Lead the design of high-impact product areas, from initial research to final UI design
– Regularly communicate with customers to gather feedback and incorporate their input into the product
– Work closely with product managers, engineers, and customer support to deliver thoughtful user experiences
– Help establish the foundation of Tern’s design team, including future hires, systems, and culture
– Balance speed and quality, knowing when to delve deep and when to take a more agile approach to maintain momentum
– Foster a work environment where great design thrives
Requirements:
– Previous experience shipping end-to-end product design projects in a startup or fast-paced environment
– Strong product instincts and the ability to navigate UX, technical, and business tradeoffs
– Comfortable working in an ambiguous environment, takes initiative, and doesn’t wait for perfect inputs
– Able to manage multiple projects at various stages, including shipping, refining, and exploration
– Can work quickly and pragmatically to deliver value, even when time constraints prevent extensive research or perfect polish
– Passionate about co-creating the design process at an early-stage company, from tools and workflows to team culture
– Excited to experiment with new technologies, particularly AI tools like LLMs to enhance product experiences
– Excellent communication skills, providing constructive feedback and contributing positive energy to the team
Not a Fit If:
– Your focus is primarily on brand, visual, or marketing design
– You have not worked on product teams or owned end-to-end product design projects
– You prefer a highly structured environment or a fully developed design system
– You need weeks of uninterrupted time for exploration, research, and polishing before shipping
– You are not interested in or skeptical of the role AI can play in product design
