Arsenal Studio is a rapidly growing custom web design and development business seeking a talented and experienced Full-Time Mid-Level Backend Web Developer to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with our in-house design, development, and strategy teams to develop websites, web apps, and integrations for our clients using a variety of technologies.
Important: Please note that we are currently only able to hire residents of the US, Canada, and Mexico. This is not a design position, but we do value interdisciplinary work.

Remote Workplace
We have been a fully remote workplace since our inception and can hire candidates throughout North America. Our team works during regular East Coast business hours, with some flexibility in start and end times if needed.
Role & Requirements
We are seeking a Full-Time Remote Web Developer with a strong background in PHP and JavaScript. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of professional web development experience and a passion for building maintainable and efficient web applications. Experience with Angular and/or NestJS is a bonus, as well as proficiency with CSS. If you are a proactive problem-solver with a keen eye for detail and the ability to work in a self-directed environment, we would love to hear from you.
As a member of our team, you will work on multiple projects simultaneously. You will also participate in stand-up style meetings with the team three times a week and have the opportunity for further breakout sessions as needed for specific projects. After onboarding, you will be given coding assignments, and while you will have support from the team, you will also be expected to drive progress and communicate any needs efficiently.
Projects You Will Work On:
– Online enrollment platform with search tools, reporting, and enrollment workflows / LMS integrations for a university
– Financial analysis and budgeting tools + admin reporting platform for a non-profit consumer advocacy organization
– Build a custom bi-direcitonal API and integrate with a custom employment recruiting platform that synchronizes job listings on recruiting websites and job recruiting platforms
Key Responsibilities:
– Develop applications, APIs, and other backend infrastructure using PHP and JavaScript
– Maintain existing web applications using PHP and JavaScript
– Migrate older projects to modern infrastructure, generally from PHP to JavaScript
– Participate in designing new build tooling, automated test tooling, and workflows for projects
– Create custom marketing website functionality for our clients by extending CMSs such as WordPress, Hubspot, Wagtail, etc.
– Write and maintain clean, maintainable, and efficient code
– Write clear and organized documentation
– Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and best practices, both as a reviewer and reviewee
– Communicate effectively with team members on progress and priorities through Slack, video conferencing, and project management tools.
Qualifications:
– Minimum of 2 years of professional web development experience with a focus on PHP and backend JavaScript. More experience is also welcome, and compensation will be based on experience.
– Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear updates on progress, challenges, and successes. We value knowledge sharing.
– Self-direction, as we are a small team and take responsibility for our own productivity.
– Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. While you will have support from the team, you are expected to solve problems independently.
– Writing skills sufficient for writing clear comments in code, progress updates, and internal documentation.
– Familiarity with Git, Bash (or similar CLI), VS Code (or similar IDE)
– Basic understanding of RESTful and other API design patterns.
Nice to Have:
– Experience with the following technologies:
– Angular and/or NestJS
– Doctrine
– WordPress theme development
– Wagtail / Python / Django
– Node.js
– API Design and development
– Object-relational mapping (ORM) frameworks
– Modern build tools (e.g., WebPack or SnowPack)
