About the Role:

Join our team as a Senior Software Engineer on the Roots team, where you will play a crucial role in managing and developing our core Catalogue system. This system spans across all of Settle and handles customer issues and integrations with partner companies such as QBO, Shopify, and Netsuite. In this role, you will have the opportunity to design and build high-impact, results-oriented systems, products, and features. With a strong product-market fit, organic growth, and a robust long-term roadmap, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team driving Settle’s ongoing success.

We are seeking versatile back-end engineers (with some front-end exposure being a plus) who have a product-focused mindset to help elevate our business to new heights. The ideal candidate is forward-thinking, has a strong understanding of technical architecture, and can prevent scope creep while delivering incremental value. We are looking for someone who is agile, customer-centric, and able to work collaboratively with a team.

Key Responsibilities:

– Develop scalable and reliable third-party integrations by creating APIs and systems that connect seamlessly and securely.
– Design extensible data models, services, and APIs to power customer-facing features and ensure a seamless user experience.
– Optimize existing systems and infrastructure to support growing users, features, partners, and engineers.
– Work closely with Product and Design teams to develop customer/user-facing functionality for our app.
– Mentor and support the development of team members, fostering a culture of learning and growth within the engineering team.
– Collaborate with fellow engineers to build reliable testing, integration, and deployment frameworks.
– Independently drive projects to completion while effectively communicating progress and challenges to technical and non-technical colleagues.

Requirements:

– 5+ years of industry experience, preferably in the B2B fintech and/or startup sector.
– Strong understanding of scaling infrastructure, designing technical architecture, and building APIs.
– Proficiency in CS fundamentals, with a willingness to learn Ruby on Rails (our primary backend language), and mastery of OOP principles. Familiarity with an ORM framework, such as Django or Hibernate, is also preferred.
– Experience designing scalable systems that not only meet growing customer demand but also support internal applications and seamless third-party integrations.
– Experience building microservices with a thoughtful and strategic approach, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and resilience.
– Knowledge of web-app architecture design and a curiosity or understanding of how everything fits together from web services up through display.
– Adaptability and willingness to jump into new problems and find solutions.
– Customer-centric mentality and a desire to understand and solve customer problems.
– Leadership skills, with the ability to navigate the unknown and mentor fellow engineers.

Compensation:

The annual starting salary range for Senior and Staff-level positions is $160,000 – $200,000 + equity + benefits. Compensation may exceed this range for exceptional, experienced candidates joining above the posted levels.

Benefits and Perks:

– Unlimited PTO
– Flexible and remote work culture
– Competitive compensation and equity
– Health, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents
– Lunch and commute reimbursement when working in the NYC office located near Union Square
– $500 home office set up reimbursement

– $50 monthly food delivery gift card
– 401k
– Brex company card
