Varo is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Data Scientist with a focus on Machine Learning for our Marketing team. As an entirely digital and mission-driven bank, Varo is dedicated to providing a seamless and secure banking experience for all customers. At Varo, data science plays a central role in driving business decisions and shaping the in-app banking experience. As a member of our Data Science Team, you will have the opportunity to work with a collegial team of PhDs and ex-academics to tackle interesting problems and contribute to the company’s growth.
Responsibilities:
– Develop production ML models to drive customer acquisition and engagement marketing
– Utilize clustering, segmentation, and LTV models to improve our understanding of customers
– Design and conduct experiments to provide insights to the marketing and product teams and optimize the performance of machine learning models
– Collaborate with stakeholders throughout the marketing and product organization to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business decisions
– Work with the engineering team to improve our production pipeline and engineer new features and metrics
– Mentor junior data scientists
Qualifications:
– 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, Economist, or Statistician as an individual contributor, including relevant experience from your PhD research
– Advanced degree in a quantitative field with training in ML and/or causal inference (statistics, economics, biostatistics, etc.)
– Experience applying statistical techniques to large datasets and understanding their real-world advantages and drawbacks
– Proficiency in Python for analysis and modeling (pandas, numpy, scikit, scipy, statsmodels, matplotlib, etc.)
– Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
– Experience in marketing optimization is a plus
